It’s time again for Oh, How Pinteresting! Wednesday. Check out the other links at The Vintage Apple to see what other Pinterest fans are pinning. Spring is in the air. We barely had a winter. We’ve had more days of 70+ degrees than we’ve had of 32 or below. Needless to say, everything is blooming early around here, and it’s time for me to decide what I want to do with my yard this year. Bear in mind, our neighborhood has strict guidelines regarding landscaping: sizes of shrubs, how many of each size, how many trees in the front yard, etc. – all minimums, I’m sure. The year before last, we replaced some horribly ugly shrubs with one of my all-time favorites – gardenias. They’re still around, but two (of the five) look pretty weak. Still, they survived a few snows during last winter’s deep freeze. The red dogwood we planted, to replace a hideous scraggly tree, began dying within weeks of planting. Last spring, we replaced some other horribly ugly shrubs with some Indian Hawthorns. They’re not my favorite by any means, but they were less expensive than azaleas – and with my track record concerning plant growth, it was the wiser choice. I’d hate to put in so much money for three plants just to have them die. The Indian Hawthorns are thriving. We replaced the dead dogwood with a crepe myrtle, which finally bloomed late in the season – during the worst of our drought, no less. Still, I worried about it lasting the winter. When I peeked out the boys’ window yesterday, I saw new leaf growth and was overjoyed. It’s not looking like we’ll need to replace anything this spring, so this year I can try something on my own. But what? I’d love to do some container gardening! I even recently checked out a book from the library: Taunton’s Container Garden Idea Book. It’s got some great tips that I hope will help me be successful. I also found some great container garden ideas through Pinterest.

I’d also like to try my hand at growing herbs and vegetables. I hate paying a small fortune at the farmer’s market for great-tasting produce, and the less expensive grocery store items don’t even compare. I’d loveto have veggies coming in so bountifully that I can share them with friends and still have plenty to put on our table each night!

And for something a little whimsical, when the boys have outgrown their Crocs…
